What is a Sixth Class City?

As defined by the Kentucky State Constitution, a Sixth Class City is one whose population is 999 or less. Creekside, with its population of ~300 and total of 126 houses, is about as small as a Sixth Class City can be. More information about city class sizes in Kentucky can be found on the Kentucky Secretary of State's website.

As a City in its own right, Creekside has its own elected governmental body known as the Creekside Commission. The Commission consists of four commissioners, who serve terms of two years in length, and a mayor, who serves for four. There are no term limits attached to these positions, and they are non-partisan in nature. The City also employs a City Clerk/Treasurer, who is appointed by the Commission. More information about the governing of Sixth Class cities can be found in the Kentucky Revised Statutes, and the current roster of elected and non-elected city employees can be found via a link in the header.

Residents of Creekside pay property taxes in support of their city. More information about taxes can be found here.
